People from Pittsburgh area take cover during Las Vegas shooting

People from the Pittsburgh area were caught in the chaos when a gunman opened fire late Sunday night during a country music festival along the Las Vegas Strip. The shooting has become the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

“It sounded like boom, boom, boom. Real fast,” said Marissa Jones, of Carnegie. “It sounded so close to us. I didn't know where it was coming from.”
Jones said she and a friend, who is from McKees Rocks, were returning to their hotel, the MGM Grand. But as they were getting ready to go up a set of stairs, they were told to turn around as the gunfire erupted.
“We started hearing the gunshots and tried to find an exit. We just continued running. People were freaking out,” Jones said.
Jones and her friend hid under a golf cart and held hands until they felt it was safe to come out.
Brandon Foley, of Beechview, was also staying at the MGM Grand and said he could see the concert from his room. He went to play slot machines when people started running and screaming through the hotel’s lobby.
Foley described the scene as a “mass stampede.”

Meanwhile, Ryan Kubiak, of Green Tree, was preparing to leave the MGM Grand to catch his flight back to Pittsburgh. He and his friend were ready to call an Uber when a woman screamed, “There’s a shooter!”
“You don't know what's going on, so we wanted to take cover. We got in the back office and shut the doors. We don't know who was in there. It was pandemonium,” Kubiak said.
