Woman dies after being hit by bus in downtown Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — A woman who was struck Saturday morning by a shuttle bus in downtown Pittsburgh died at a hospital, police said.

Kristine Lerie, 46, of Oakdale, was struck about 7 a.m. at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Grant Street, police said. She was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital with critical injuries, where she was later pronounced dead.

According to the initial investigation, Lerie was in a crosswalk when the bus hit her, police said.

The driver of the bus stayed at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. The crash remains under investigation.
