Man wanted in connection with fatal Stowe Township shooting turns himself in

STOWE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man wanted in connection with the shooting death of a man in Stowe Township last week turned himself in Wednesday, police said.

Investigators said the victim, 22-year-old Robert Ray, was located in the 800 block of Russellwood Avenue just before 9 p.m. last Thursday. Police said he had been shot in the head.

Ray was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, but later died from his injuries Friday morning, police said.

Police said the shooting happened in the front yard of a home on Russellwood Avenue.

Investigators identified the suspect as 27-year-old Charles Dixson, who has ties to Stowe Township and the McKees Rocks area.%

Authorities confirmed that they surrounded a home early morning Friday on 12th Street where Dixson was known to stay, but he was not found there.

"We have reason to believe he's still armed as he was last night, so we're anxious to get him into custody,” Allegheny County Homicide Superintendent Coleman McDonough said.

A warrant was issued Friday for Dixson’s arrest. He turned himself in to authorities on Wednesday.

Detectives said that according to witnesses’ accounts, an argument may have led to the shooting.

"We have some witnesses who observed a verbal argument earlier in the evening between the (Ray and Dixson), and we believe that may have been part of what precipitated this,” McDonough said.
