One of Pittsburgh area's last drive-in theaters closes its doors

ALLEGHENY COUNTY, Pa. — The owner of the Twin Hi-Way Drive-In theater in Robinson Township

Tuesday night to announce the establishment was closing its doors for good.

“It is with great sadness that we make this final post. Due to many circumstances far, far beyond our control, the Twin Hi-Way Drive-In has closed its doors,” the post, in part, read.

Opponents to the theater’s closure started a petition last fall to keep the drive-in from being turned into a Sheetz gas station. The 48-acre site sits in the middle of a heavily developed stretch of Route 60.%

Jerry Salnoris, the owner of Twin Hi-Way, gathered 3,700 signatures from people who wanted to keep the drive-in open before presenting it to the board of commissioners in October.

However, Salnoris doesn’t own the land, and the couple who does wanted to sell it.

In his final post to the establishment’s Facebook page, Twin Hi-Way’s owner encouraged its customers to frequent the other drive-in theaters in the area.

“We encourage you not to let the drive in experience die. Please try to frequent the drive in establishments in your local area to support them and keep the tradition of family entertainment alive,” the post, in part, read.

Dependable Drive-In in Coraopolis is Allegheny County's last remaining drive-in.
